50th anniversary of the March on Washington DC Two weeks ago, the 28th of August, there was a celebration in Washington DC. Citizens from across this country commemorated and celebrated the historic March on Washington and Martin Luther King's famed "I have a dream" speech which occurred 50 years ago on August 28,1963. The 50th anniversary of those historic events was a very important day for the americans. That's why they started to celebrate them the 21st until the big day. There was a full week of events, exhibits and attractions that commemorate the March on Washington like a concert where they played sacred classical music, traditional Sri-Lankan...

Sharpton and other speakers paid tribute to King and other civil rights leaders for progress over the past five decades that led to significant gains, including Barack Obama's election as the first black U.S.

president. But the shooting death of unarmed black teenager Trayvon Martin in Florida last year and the Supreme Court's recent decision to strike down a portion of the nation's voting rights law showed the struggle was not over, Sharpton said: "King saw the possibility of an Obama 50 years ago.

The world is made of dreamers that change reality because of their dream.

And what we must do is we must give our young people dreams again". Finally, for the last day, the 28th of August, they decided to remake a second time a commemorative march, which was called "March for Jobs and Justice".

But this time, the March was much more longer than the first one (it was about 2 and a half km) and it was led by veterans of the 1963 March.

Thousands of marchers began the route from Capitol hill, passing by the most important buildings of Washington like the United States Courthouse, the Department of Justice, the Washington Monument, the World War II Memorial and they finished with the Lincoln Memorial where they waited to hear Obama's speech. "The US should keep progressing so that the dream mentioned 50 years ago by MLK become a reality" obama said at the same place where MLK was. President Obama commemorated the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington at the “Let Freedom Ring” ceremony with his family, jimmy carter, bill clinton, and many others... After their speeches, to finish the ceremony, they rang a bell in memory of MLK.. »
