1) The colours in the painting are generally pale, cold and sad. The bodyguards wear grey and beige suits while the young girl carries white clothes (white shoes, white socks, white dress and white hair bands) contrasting violently with her black skin. The pavement and the graffiti on the yellow wall are also of grey colour. Only the girls’ dress and squashed tomato appear brightly. The tomato’s blood-looking colour suggests that the girl’s life is at risk and reinforces the US Marshalls’ presence.
2) The US Marshalls are bodyguards who are escorting the serious-looking girl. We can’t see their faces. They protect the black girl from some unidentified threat, perhaps a hate group fighting mixed schools. This defenseless girl must feel safer with four bodyguards who surround her.
