Olympus Greek A mountain range in northern Greece. Its highest peak is Mount Olympus (about 9,600 feet high). The Olympic range stretches along the border between Thessaly and Macedonia, near the Aegean coast. The range overlooks the Vale of Tempe, a valley in northern Thessaly famous for its beauty. In mythology, Mount Olympus was regarded as the home of the Olympian gods. Within its mysterious heights, higher even than the visible mountain, were the abodes of the gods; there lived Zeus, Hera, and all members of the Greek pantheon. They feasted on ambrosia and nectar and listened to sweet music. No harsh winds, rain, or snow disturbed their heavenly peace.
