Libera Roman An ancient goddess of fertility, especially of grape vines; wife or sister of Liber. In most surviving information, her name is tied to Liber and Ceres, the goddess of grains and cereals. Together this trio signified food and drink, as well as liberty and law. Some suggest that Liber and Libera also presided over the selection of brides for young men, a symbol of their connection with fertility. Early in Roman history, Libera was connected with the Greek goddess Persephone, who was also known as Kore.
