What motivates an educator

Application Essay Becoming an educator is a commitment that implies a clear understanding of one's values, as they must serve as a guide in the daily interaction with students. For this reason, the question for this essay is an excellent one, which I will now address. Although there are other values that come into play when teaching a class, I believe the three most important ones are: ethical conduct, quality education and growth. When an individual accepts a teaching position, immediate trust is placed upon this educator. This trust should always be respected, nurtured and never be broken. Therefore, the educator should strive to interact with each student justly and fairly, including in matters of discipline and according to school policy. Quality education therefore involves a readiness to teach through sound, sight, speech, and writing.

In my field, language must simultaneously be taught through writing, speaking, seeing and hearing thereby ensuring an experience as close to immersion as possible.

The tools and the means to teach evolve, which brings me to my last point: Growth. It is often understood that growth means student growth, however I think it is important to consider teacher growth as well.

A class is a dynamic environment, where there is a constant exchange of information between the students and the teacher.

It is essential for the teacher to ensure he or she has the most effective approach in his or her pedagogy.

This is achieved through research, learning new pedagogical tools, being at the forefront of current issues, and fostering great teamwork among colleagues.

Last but certainly not least, an educator should awaken interest, stimulate curiosity and spark enthusiasm in the students by establishing a vibrant environment.

As the educator charts a student’s progress—and testing should not be the sole means for establishing a grade—it would behoove this person to also be mindful of their own growth.

When looking at an educator’s professional history, one should be able to say that this person has been improving over the years. I started teaching in 1996, first as a substitute teacher in Colorado while simultaneously teaching for a program called Kultural Kids.

My newly discovered passion for teaching teamed up with my intellectual curiosity and I began working toward my PhD in 1998.

Throughout my years as a graduate student, I taught French grammar, composition, culture and conversation at the beginning, intermediate and advanced level and French literature at the intermediate and advanced level.

I taught undergraduate courses, in addition to teaching faculty for which I designed the curriculum.

Since moving to Seattle, I have consistently taught; adapting and using the digital world to hone my skills, creating customized lesson plans until the high standard I set for myself is met.. »
