During this exercise we decided to introduce the works of Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte in 1847, on the road by Kerouac written in 1957 and the catcher in the Rye written in 1951 by Salinger. These 3 masterpieces are treating of a character with a strong mind, and strong opinions of themselves, they all represent a kind of rebels, and they’re holders of this attitude by their way of speaking, acting, and thinking. So we are able to wonder: In what the different way of rebellions are synonyms of emancipation.  In Salinger’s text the main character Holden Caufield is using the colloquial language; in fact, everyone for him is a “phony”, but “the phoniest bastard ever” l 5 is Mr.Haas, he can’t stand this kind of people, he can’t stand his hypocrisy as we can read thanks to the line 7/8 went aro...

« able to give up everything just because they have enough of the other people.

But this is also the decision of the main character in Kerouac's text, according to him, he is different, that's why he decided to exclude himself of the white society, he is working to live, but when the work is over, he moves to an another place, he's living on the road. In Beardsley's painting we can see a woman at the top she is half naked and we can see a demon at the bottom. Indeed, she is half naked, she is showing her breast and her belly, this kind of representation was seen unfavorably at this period, she has a cold look, she is trying to provocate us, the fact of showing her breast is an act of rebellion, and the rebellion is emphasized by the demon at the bottom, maybe he represents, the emancipation, and more especially the sexual emancipation, she don't want to live under the rules of the society, she wants to be free. It remind me the movie of Sean Pain “Into the Wild” this is the story of a student, who was intended to go to Harvard, but he doesn't want a such life, he wants to explore the world, discover new things, be free, because of this, he gives all his money to charity business, and during the night, he give up everything even his family to travel all around the united states, he will learn how to live simply, and will make exceptional encounters with amazing people, he is ready to pay the price of the freedom, and the price of the emancipation. To conclude, we can say that the subject of the rebellion leading to the emancipation has marked the history of arts, every type of art is concerned, the literature, the cinematography, the painting probably the music too. This subject has not stopped to amaze us.    . »
