« Mini synthèse The importance of religion in the United States is a complex topic, as there is a majority of the population that is religious, and there’s a big variety of religions, such as Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, and various others.

The set of documents is composed of a cartoon created by Lisa Benson in june 2022 that deals with the overturn of Roe V Wade, a news article entitled "Biden orders commission to study supreme court expansion and reform" posted by the Guardian in april 2021, and finally an infograph by Statista, regarding the religious composition of the 117th Congress.

One can thus wonder how important is religion in American society? Firstly we"ll see how religion plays a role in political decisions, and then we"ll see how these decisions have an impact on the American population. Religion plays a huge role in American politics, since many of the decisions taken by the Supreme Court are result of conservative beliefs.

An example of these decisions, is the overturn of Roe V Wade in june 2022, as we can see in the first document, where we can see a member of the Superme Court coming out of the white house while pushing a cart filled with documents regarding Roe V Wade, he seems to be smiling to a representation of God that is on the top left of the cartoon.

This shows that this member was clearly for the overturn of the right to abortion and he justifed it by his religious beliefs.

The court is leaning on the right of the political spectrum, as it is described as "ideoligically conservative" in the 2nd document.

However, the Supreme Court isn't the only instituion that bases itself on religious beliefs, since the Congress is entirely religous.
