Essay
The play Macbeth was written by William shakespeare.
The character of
Lady Macbeth changes throughout the play.
The first apparance of Lady
Macbeth is in act 1 scene 5.
Macbeth’s wife is represented as an ambitious and
poweful woman willing to do anything to achieve her goal, later she became a
regretful soul who commits sucide.
Lady Macbeth is obessed with the idea of
becoming queen, at the point insight her husband to kill someone.
The
ambition and the power of Lady Macbeth lead to change in her character.
Lady Macbeth wanted to become queen.
After Macbeth hears, the
prophecies told that he will become king, Lady Macbeth starte to be obessed
with the idea of becoming queen.
The reader can see her ambition in the letter
she receives: “this have I thought good […] being ignorant of what greatness is
promised thee” (act 1 scene 5); this quote is telling that Lady Macbeth can
eventually be queen, that her dream.
From the beginning, Lady Macbeth
shows that she wants to kill Duncan (the king at the beginning of the play):
“yet ‘I do fear thy nature, is too full o’ th’milk of human kindness to catch the
nearest way” (Act 1 scene 5), this quote is litteraly a definition of Lady
Macbeth’s ambition.
Lady Macbeth is therefore presented as an ambitious
woman and thus as an obessed and crazy woman.
However, Lady Macbeth has character flaws that cause the beginning of
her downfall: she emasculate Macbeth and she manipulating him to achieve
her goal.
Throughout the play, the maleficience of this person is develloping
more and mor.
The fact that she belittles Macbeth is a proof of manipulation,
she uses it only for her personal need.
This quote: “And live a coward in thine
own esteem, letting ‘I dare not’ wait upon ‘I would’like the poor cat I'th’adage”
(act 1 scene 7), here lady macbeth is discribing her husband as a person
without ambition ; she is telling to Macbeth that he isn’t courageous at all.
The
power that she wants to improve is a form of ambition and the power..
