b) The tone in this essay could be seen as hopeful and concerning because the author is truly
hoping that society can change its ways to make history more interesting and meaningful.

The author is comparing separatism to glue and illustrating how the evolution
caused by people constantly fixing the problems that Canada faces or “tinkering”
with it makes it that much stronger and therefore students should know more
about doing their own part to help mold Canadian history.
