"The Supermarket Lady" perfectly illustrates her time and American society in the 1960s the birth of the
society of mass consumption, the shopping cart replaces the basket, the products are manufactured
industrially( cans of tomatoes ; spaghettis, Eggs), the overweight of the model shows the opulence of this
consumer society.
I believe everything displayed here has a meaning and everything here has a purpose.
His
main while expressing himself throughout his sculptures is to transport scenes from banal or provocative daily
life to the museum to immortalize them.
In my opinion here the artist main aim is to display and show that
America isn't that much off a wonderful and amazing country like it may seems in pictures and poems and that
it has a lot of problems and issues that it need to face like racism and police brutality.
I have searched some
info about Duane Hanson and I found out that is most famous and controversial work was a sculpture made
after the assassination of Martin Luther king Jr
It's a sculpture of a white policeman using violence on an innocent and unarmed Afro American.
I like the work of this artist particularly because he isn't afraid to use his clout to defend what he believe is right. The third document is my favorite because it's a music that you can listen to every day but i prefer the music video because it has so much detail in it an so much references like the way Chaldish Gambino the musical alter ego of Danny Glover mimics The old Jim Crow attitude of amusing the white audience, in the document we can see that Childish Gambino does all of that to denounce everything that his happening in America even the title of his song points to a certain thing ?this is America? here his main aim is to denounce the fact that in a certain ways and for a certain kind of people the American dream is actually a fantasy and his act here is an opposition to the belief that the American dream is accessible to anyone. The document 2 the sculpture and the document 3 the music video are actually closely linked because they both denounce the fact that there is no actually an American dream it's just a conception an ideology made by one another to keep hope in are modern time but I find it very interesting because the American dream was really a belief, as we can see in the document 1 the poem really invite the unwealthy people and desperate peoples to come to the land of hope and freedom and their we can see that she truly believes there is hope for. »
