Climate change shows today how important it is for our cities to preserve and respect environment and cities
can also get a bad name for being dirty and disrespectful towards the environment as said in the video.
With
the exponential growth of urban migration and global population, cities now have to deal with each people
consumption and carbon print since cities are the main source of pollution and carbon emission.
As a
consequence, governments are now innovating and financing researches for clean energy such as renewable
energy.
New cities must also be a driver of the transition to low carbon emission.
As this climate change
challenge is mentioned by Katherine Cooke in March 2017.
However, the technology of cities tends to be prioritized by governments, at the expense of the environment.
While advanced technologies are obviously important, social relationships make a big difference in how urban
communities thrive in daily life and cope in times of environmental crisis.
It can influence people's everyday
behaviour and its perception towards the environmental sustainability.
It is proven that during crisis situations,
relationships within a community can make a difference in order to cope with those situations.
Thus, the creation of future cities and its urban development must be designed with positive social goals within
its community mainly for environmental purposes.
However this also raises many questions such as : what
behaviours do we want to see?
In the end, urban development of cities must manage to improve people's health and prevent itself from climate
change, and what can play a major role for it is : communities collective power.
As this aspect is mainly
highlighted by Eve Reed in July 2017.
Finally, the topic of environmental sustainability helps me think about cities of the future in its hard and
complex challenge that it brings.
And also, how important this aspect is for our today's cities and upcoming
ones, since it can't be ignored anymore.
