Extrait du document
It’s an extract from Seymour rechzeit’s autobiography entitled “ A boy’s journey “ . This novel was published in 2002. The author is born in 1912 in Polans. He leave Poland and became a wellknown figure in the Yiddish theatre. The text deals with Seymour’s and his father’s journey form Poland to America on board the ship called “ Lapland “ . They want to make money and have more opportunities. They hope live the American dream. My commentary can be divided into three parts. Firstly Seymour’s past in Poland, secondly travel of Seymour and his dad on the ship, and finally is the arrivals of them in America and their futurs.

and nicknamed him “ wunderkind “.
We can suppose that is in German
because at this time in history this was the war and germans people controlled
Poland.
Later the author speak about the time context “ World War I had just
ended, and it was a bad time in Europe “ (L 7-8).
The author is right, it remins
me my history lessons, and i have learn that it was the reconstruction from
Europe.
All was destroyed and this was not opportunities’s time.
It leads they
to decides their to leave to America.
Maybe can they found more opportunities
over there for him.
Finally because of his uncle he can leave to America with
his father.
After they will make anouth money with his voice to bring all his
familly too to America.
I can believe that after this war and in poland people
was’nt enough rich to go back from Europe.
That is the begining of Seymour’s
history and the plot of the extract.
Then begin Seymour’s and his father in 1920 on board the ship called “
Lapland “.
“It was on my way to America.
“ (l19) symbolised Seymour’s new
life.
I imagine that he was wonder by this futur journey.
He stesses the fact that
it is a “ big boat “ (l20) and to pass through the Atlantic Ocean ; he is same
optimistic with the world “ fun “ .
The author is a that moment just eight years
old and make what is suggest like an wonderful travel..
But he proved us the
opposite situation, he qualified this journey like “ miserable “ it is a hard world.
He explain what he say and describe us his terrible life conditions on the ship.
He can’t realy rest him in his room, he can’t sleep into there.
I can understand
him.
I never can sleep into a ship it move to much and it is totaly unconfortable
! It reminds me a lot of film board on a ship, i can imagine how hard must it be.
The author show to readers an other twist wich he must support : the
bad weather.
He make us realized how complicated must be travels at that
time.
All was hard, sleep, eat, etc...
And it cost still a lot of money.
After this
pessimistic vision of the travel, Seymour describ arrivals in America with the
view on the Statue of Liberty, everybody was impressed face of that.
He was
sick and he still go out to look at the statue.
I supposed that it was too the
symbol of new life, new dream and end trip for all newcomers.
But then a new
events happens : the medical examination.
To my mind if i was him, i will be.
