The Columbine High School massacre occurred on Tuesday, April 20, 1999 inside the school, located near the town of Littleton, State of Colorado, in the United States.

Two students, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, killed 12 American high school students and one teacher.

They were armed with rifles, automatic guns and home-made bombs.

They belonged to the "Trench Coat gang" and aimed, in particular, black and Hispanic minorities and members of sports teams too.

In a first part we’ll talk about the facts, then in a second one about the causes and finally about the impacts of this shooting.

« 3) Impacts Following the Columbine shooting, new debates concerning the possession of firearms have been opened in order to avoid new acts of violence. School security There has been an impact on school policies.

In fact, schools instituted new security measures such as see-through backpacks, metal detectors, and security guards. Long-term results There have also been long-term results such as gun control.

The massacre aroused a lot of attention concerning the control of firearms.

In 2000, reforms have been organized: guns have to possess safety locks, moreover, the stores of ammunition are prohibited to import arms in high quantities. Although laws have been adopted to prevent/forbid people and also minors to buy guns, they always find a way to bypass the law. Conclusion In conclusion, the massacre caused a great stir in the United States and created a social psychosis of terrorism, the availability of these weapons but with laws of gun control.

It created too, the fact that the impact of some video games, some music and some films considered as violent in the US.

Many films, books and musics were inspired by the Columbine massacre, such as the documentary Bowling for Columbine by Michael Moore, the film Elephant by Gus Van Sant or the song The Kinslayer of the band Nightwish.. »
