The Alps cover 70 % of Swiss territory and is the site of a major winter sports infrastructure.
Switzerland is a landlocked and mountainous country. The West is occupied by a line of limestone secondary mountain ranges of the Jura and by the Jura plateau at moderate altitude; in the South and East, in the heart of the Alps, rise the sources of the Rhine and Rhone rivers. The Jura plateau is home to the majority of the population of Switzerland.
