Warren Gamaliel Harding - biography. 29th president of the United States Birth November 2, 1865 Death August 2, 1923 Home State Ohio Party Republican Term In Office March 4, 1921-August 2, 1923 Vice President Calvin Coolidge Significant Acts Approved the Immigration Restriction Act of 1921, which placed the first U.S. quotas on immigration. Called the Washington Conference of 1921-1922, an international meeting aimed at restricting naval armaments. Appointed a cabinet secretary who later accepted bribes for federal oil field leases in the Teapot Dome scandal. Career 1884 Bought the Star, a Marion, Ohio, newspaper. 1900-1903 Served in the Ohio Senate. 1904-1905 Served as lieutenant governor of Ohio. 1915-1921 Represented Ohio in the U.S. Senate. 1921-1923 President of the United States. Did You Know Harding was the first president to visit Alaska and Canada. Harding died of a heart attack after only two years in office.
