Vampire Bat. Feeding Vampire bats suck the blood from livestock, birds, and sometimes humans. They hunt shortly after dark, flying about 1 m (3.3 ft) above Habits the ground to find prey. Offspring Female vampire bats give birth to a single pup after a gestation period of about seven months. Life Span Up to 19 years in captivity. Did You Know Vampire bats are very agile on the ground, using their hind legs to crawl and run. When feeding, vampire bats ingest about 20 ml (1 oz) of blood a night.
