Greek The son of Laomedon, king
of Troy, and brother of Priam. Eos, goddess of the
dawn, loved him. She bore him a son, Memnon, one
of the heroes of the Trojan War. Eos begged Zeus to
make her husband immortal. Zeus granted her wish
and Tithonus lived for a very long time. However,
eternal youth was not given to him, and the young
man became a shriveled old thing with little more
than a strident voice. At last the gods took pity on
him and turned him into a cicada.
