E.T.--The Extra-Terrestrial E.T.--The Extra-Terrestrial, box-office hit motion picture about a boy who befriends an alien. Released in 1982, the film won Academy Awards for music, sound, sound effects, and visual effects. When an alien gets stranded on earth, he hides out in a suburban backyard and meets the little boy Elliot (played by Henry Thomas). Elliot keeps the alien, E.T., safe in his house, teaches him about humankind, and helps him go home to his own planet.
