Austrian physicist Birth August 12, 1887 Death January 4, 1961 Place of Vienna, Austria Birth Known for Formulating the theory of wave mechanics, which describes the behavior of subatomic particles in terms of waves Winning the 1933 Nobel Prize in physics, which he shared with Paul Dirac and Werner Heisenberg Career 1910 Received his Ph.D. in physics from the University of Vienna 1921-1927 Taught physics at the University of Zürich 1926 Published a paper containing the Schrödinger wave equation, which treats elementary particles as waves 1927-1933 Taught theoretical physics at the University of Berlin 1933 Became a fellow at the University of Oxford, where he remained until 1936 1939 Accepted a research position at the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies 1956 Became professor emeritus at the University of Vienna Did You Schrödinger opposed Nazi policies, and fled from Austria in 1938 when it was annexed by Germany.
