« The book 'On the Road' was one of the flagship works of the 'Beat Generation', a term used by the author Jack Kerouac to name a writer's group that found its inspiration in jazz, poetry, and drug use. In 1958, the New York Times hailed it as « the most beautifully executed, the clearest and most important utterance » of Kerouac's generation. Jack Kerouac was an American novelist and poet.

He is considered a literary iconoclast. He was considered the father of the beat movement.
