« Test Horror in Cinema Part I : watch the trailer for Carrie, by Brian de Palma (1976) and answer the following questions: 1) 2) 3) 4) 5) 6) Identify the main character (name, family background, situation…) Analyze the relations between the main character and her school mates. Explain the special ability of the main character. Say what we understand about the events of Prom Night. Analyze the use of colors and their meaning. What social message does the film convey? 1.

Based on the trailer, it seems that the main character is a girl named Carrie White.

She seems very shy and socially awkward, which might be because of her home life.

We get short glimpses of her mom, who seems really strict and very religious, maybe even extreme.

This could explain why Carrie is so different from the other students and why she has trouble fitting in.

It’s hard to tell if Carrie has any friends or if she’s completely alone, but her life seems lonely and controlled. 2.

From what we see in the trailer, Carrie doesn’t have a good relationship with her classmates.

The other students seem to make fun of her and treat her badly, especially in a scene where they laugh at her in the locker room.

There is one girl who seems to feel sorry for her and tries to help by asking her boyfriend to take Carrie to the prom. But another student, Chris, seems to really dislike Carrie and plans a cruel prank to humiliate her at the prom.

We don’t fully understand why Chris dislikes Carrie so much, but it looks like jealousy or a desire to control others might be involved. 3.

The trailer suggests that Carrie has a strange power, something that allows her to control objects with her mind.

It seems to be linked to her emotions because it appears when she’s upset or angry.

She doesn’t explain how she got this power or if she even knows how to use it, but she clearly has a lot of it.

It also looks like she’s scared of it because she seems surprised and afraid when it happens. 4.

If we believe the trailer, Carrie’s prom night starts off well.

She seems to feel accepted and happy when she’s crowned prom queen.

However, there’s a feeling that something bad is about to happen.

We see scenes where a bucket of pig’s blood is being set up as a prank, and it looks like the blood gets poured on Carrie in front of everyone. 5.

Red is an important color in the trailer.

It’s shown when Carrie gets covered in pig’s blood at prom, which is a huge embarrassment for her.

But red also seems to represent her anger and power.

At first, it’s linked to pain, but later it might also show Carrie getting revenge and taking control.

The other color we see is green, which seems connected to Chris, the girl who plans the prank.

Green is often related to jealousy, so it might show how Chris feels about Carrie.

In one scene, there is green lighting.... »
