Extrait du document
This is one of the many self-portraits that Van Gogh painted while he was in Paris in 1887. He was beginning to experiment with new painting techniques, in this case with what might be called Neo-Impressionist or perhaps Semi-Pointillist. His short stabbing brush-marks are evidence of his attempt to encompass the ideas and techniques developed by the Impressionists in the 1870s and the early 1880s
