Extrait du document
This rather low-key colour composition of a pair of old shoes was painted at the height of Van Gogh's powerful, colourful and expansive period of work in Aries. Although his handling of the textural quality of the paint has much in common with other works being produced at this time, the very close colour range, even the lack of colour range, is rather surprising.
